Dr. Jonathan Koscso, Sports Medicine Specialist

Dr. Koscso’s experience across the entire spectrum of shoulder, elbow, knee, and ankle pathology enables comprehensive and longitudinal care for patients with a variety of orthopaedic conditions. He has cared for athletes at all levels, from the young athlete with shoulder instability, to the professional athlete with an ACL tear, and to the senior athlete with knee arthritis.
Dr. Koscso is a current Associate Team Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Tampa Bay Rays and Head Orthopaedic Surgeon for New College of Florida Athletics. Throughout his prior training, he has been a team physician for the New York Mets, the Brooklyn Cyclones, as well as Iona College Athletics, and has also served athletes from the New York Giants, New York Rangers, New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, and New York Liberty during his fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
A native of Tampa, FL, Dr. Koscso attended Jesuit High School followed by the University of South Florida where he was a 3-year team captain of the USF Baseball Team and member of the USF Honors College with an eventual degree in Biomedical Sciences.
Upon completion of his undergraduate studies and having earned a position in the USF Morsani College of Medicine, Dr. Koscso opted to pause his academic training and pursue a professional baseball career after being drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft. When his baseball days finally concluded, he began his medical school training with a strong interest in Orthopaedic Surgery. His medical training was highlighted by an induction into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society in his 3rd year of medical school.
Dr. Koscso completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency training at the Washington University in St. Louis/Barnes-Jewish Hospital program in St. Louis, MO, a consistent Top-10 orthopaedic training institution by Doximity. During his 5-year residency training, Dr. Koscso developed his Sports Medicine interests while caring for athletes of all levels including the St. Louis Blues, Lindenwood University Athletics, and Washington University Athletics.
Dr. Koscso’s Sports Medicine interest culminated with a final year of specialized fellowship training at the world-renowned Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, consistently ranked the #1 orthopaedic hospital by U.S. News & World Report. During his year at HSS, Dr. Koscso trained under several leading Sports Medicine surgeons to further his expertise in treating conditions of the shoulder, elbow, knee, and ankle. Additionally, he was able to advance his clinical interest in throwing shoulder/elbow-related injuries while serving as a team physician for the New York Mets.
Dr. Koscso maintains a strong interest in treating all musculoskeletal sports-related conditions in athletes across the age-spectrum. In his spare time, he is active in covering various high school athletics programs and community racing/charity events. He is also an avid triathlete who enjoys competing across the country.
